Scenario Location Event!
In this year’s community event we will build and flesh out one scenario location for The Expanse RPG together!
(submission is either to the files section on the Facebook GM group or e-mailed to onepageadventure [at] expanserpgcommunity.com by November 30 at 23:59 UTC).
Instead of adventures, each entry develops two or more connected parts of the colony on Eris (and outposts on Dysnomia, see attached PDF for more inspiration):
- Locations: For instance, pressure-bulkhead neighbourhoods, (buried) mines, docks, bars, reactor annexes, abandoned habitats, shrines, abandoned works and forbidden research stations and survey sites.
- Actors: For instance, workers, administrators, pilots, medics, fixers, organisers, families, criminals, investigators, tourists, and recent arrivals.
- Corporations and organisations: For instance, mining concerns, contractors, unions, family networks, scientific missions, criminal enterprises, political factions and public authorities.
- Interests and tensions: For instance, disputed claims, rumours, local politics, scarce supplies, labour conflicts, allegations, hidden surveys, failing infrastructure, missing cargo, smuggling routes, divided loyalties and dangerous discoveries.
- Contributions should preferably be made with the consideration that the ring has not yet opened or left Venus.
Each contribution should create something immediately useful at the table, with fluff and stats and story hooks (and offer connections that GMs can use directly or adapt slot into their game).
A location needs people who use or contest it; an actor needs objectives, resources, and limitations; an organisation needs interests, informations, and incentives.
Together, the entries will form a scenario location: somewhere crews can find work, hide until the heat (churn?) dissipates, uncover secrets, choose sides, make enemies and discover how much human communities can be compressed before something, inevitably, breaks.
We really encourage participants (that is you!) to use rules for organisations (Sol System book), make up custom ships (Ships of the Expanse, Crew Companion, and core rulebook), and make use of the Reputation rules, Membership rules, Relationships (chapter 14 The Expanse Transport Union Edition) and Apprehension rules (page 239 in the TUE rulebook). And don’t forget about the new Enhancement Implants rules.
The rules follow the standard OPAJ rules with regards to page count, language, font size, and copyright (see https://expanserpgcommunity.com/scenario-location-events/), in short:
- One entry per person. (but you can collaborate and link your entry to someone else’s)
- Each entry must have a title and named author (nick or real name).
- One page, two sides, of gameable content including locations, NPCs, factions, story hooks, adventure seeds, etc.
- Please reference rule supplements as relevant.
- Label your contribution: “fan inspired content anyone can use”.
- Comment below to give an indication of what you are writing: a one or two sentence pitch, please. This will help avoid duplication (and encourage interconnected collaboration).
